Electronic Arts announced The Sims 3, as anticipated by many Sims fans. There is a teaser website at www.thesims3.ea.com with promises of more to come on March 19th! Keep an eye out!!!
EA Games has released its newest addition to the Sims 2 expansion pack collection: The Sims 2 Freetime! Now your Sims can develop all kinds of hobbies and gain even more aspirations, rewards, secret lots, and special benefits! Warning: the following blog may contain spoilers!
New items for mention: a violin for your Sims to play, a sewing machine that allows you to make things from potholders to teddy bears, a pottery wheel, ballet bars, and basketball hoops!
New careers: architecture, dance, entertainment, intelligence, and oceanography. Each of the new careers comes with their very own new career rewards, as well! These include drafting tables, an audio augementer, a koi pond, and personal fame stars!
Each new hobby that your Sim can enjoy comes with its own specific benefits and unlockable lots and benefits! The new hobbies include arts and crafts, cuisine, fitness, nature, film and literature, games, music and dance, science, sports, and tinkering! Dependent upon your Sims’ skill level in each hobby, they may be invited to join a club and visit their own secret clubhouse! Sims can get magazine subscriptions to help them develop interest and skill in each hobby! Your Sims can even blog about their interests or rebuild old cars!
There is a new Lifetime Aspiration score that your Sims must develop by keeping them happy and achieving their normal wants and avoiding their fears. This new aspiration meter brings with it new benefits and special powers! You can do things from making Grandma’s comfort soup for the family to conjuring grilled cheese sandwiches to investing and even receiving a special Genie lamp or summoning aliens depending on what your Sims aspiration is. You can even choose a secondary aspiration for your Sims!
More to come!
Are your Sims unhappy and in desperate need of an intervention? Well The Sims 2 has an awesome little cheat code that you can use that will instantly make your Sim a happier person. Bring up the cheat code dialogue box by typing in Ctrl+Shift+C and then type in maxmotives. This will reinstate your Sim’s happiness and thus, your own.
Sick of having your Sim pay bills? Well, look no further than the No More Bills cheat! All you have to do is press Ctrl+Shift+C and type in move_objects on. This works in both The Sims (original) and The Sims 2. Once you’ve done that, it will allow you to delete the mailbox.
Deleting the mailbox, deletes your bills… and thus, your Sim lives in a stress free environment.
AMENDMENT: Samantha, a moderator from The Sims Resource, reviewed this entry on Plumbob Paradise and posted a comment that will do users of The Sims (original) better than what this suggests. She advises, “Never, ever recommend deleting the mailbox for Sims1. It may stop the bills from coming, but it also messes up your visitor portals so that guests cannot enter or leave your lot properly. There is no fix for that other than getting rid of that lot and replacing it with one that has a mailbox. If you want to recommend a safe way to get rid of bills that won’t screw up your lot, try the No Pay Bills fix from Paladin’s Place. Look under Sims1, Objects, Internal Objects.” Please look at the comments on this entry to see an appropriate fix.
Paladin’s Place posted the following information about the No Pay Bills Fix on their site, also provided by Samantha: “Introducing the “No Pay” bills!!! That’s right, if you add this IFF file to your game the bills will become self deleting. I made this patch so that I could leave my sims to fend for themselves while I slept at night. Since the bills never become due, the repoman doesn’t come by and take their stuff. I have run the game with the bills for almost 30 sim days without any problems. No more bills!”

So many people who are new to The Sims always wonder what they can do to get more money. A lot of people just want to build their houses before they actually play the game, and as understandable as that is, the game has it’s own cheat codes. If you’re a new user, you’re probably asking yourself, how in the world do I even get to the cheat code dialogue? Well, I’ll explain it to you.
In The Sims and The Sims Complete Collection (this would be the original version), you press Ctrl+Shift+C. A little gray box will appear in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Simply type in rosebud; ; and press enter. You’ll notice a large sum of Simoleons just got deposited into your account. You can continue to do this, or just clear the contents of the box and press enter to make it go away. Then you can resume normal game play with as much money as you need. You can do that as many times as you want in the game, so use it wisely!
In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories Collection, you do the same as in The Sims (original). You press Ctrl+Shift+C. Instead of a little gray box, a large box that extends the length of the screen will appear. Here, you type in motherlode and a large sum of Simoleons gets deposited into your account. Just as above, you can do this as many times as you want, but just be careful! Playing the game also has it’s rewarding points!
I’m a member of a few Sims websites, including The Sims Resource, and over and over again on each of their communities I see posts about The Sims Complete Collection and Windows Vista. I’d like to take a few minutes now to explain the issues at hand and how you can fix your copy of the game with little to no problem.
All you have to do is set the game to be ran as an administrator. This takes about 2 minutes and is probably the easiest fix you’ll find in the entirety of gaming with The Sims.
Like all games, you may be wondering if The Sims is subjected to glitches and bugs. Yes, of course it is, but if you are running Vista, your problem is most likely not a game error, it’s an operating system error.
If you are experiencing the following problems during game play, you can set your game to run as an administrator and you will easily be on your way:
- Game crashes without warning
- When objects catch fire, the game automatically crashes
- The Blue Screen of Death appears constantly while during game play
- Game loads over and over again (the main screen where it says The Sims)
- Expansion packs load over and over again while in Neighbourhood view
- Game sends up random errors to Windows (including No Disk exception while DVD/CD-ROM is in drive)
- Game needs special authorization to play
For a majority of these issues, you’ll be able to fix them just by following these simple steps and running the game in Administrator mode using Windows User Account Control.
Step 1: Right Click on your “The Sims” icon.
Step 2: Select “Properties.”
Step 3: Select the “Compatibility” tab.
Step 4: Select the “Run this program as an administrator” check box under “Privilege level.”
Step 5: Press “Apply” or “OK.”
Step 6: Play the Game.
These steps will permanently apply this setting to The Sims. REMEMBER: This fix should only be used on The Sims and The Sims Complete Collection! It has not been proven to help with any errors within The Sims 2!
If your game is sending up No Disk exception errors, your fix is even more simple. This error usually only appears when a user has decided to stop using their CD/DVD-ROM and begin using Fixed EXEs. (These Fixed EXEs can be obtained at sites like GameCopyWorld.) Some Fixed EXEs that you may download may have errors in them and may cause unwanted game crashes or the usage of features within the game to be limited. Please be careful when editing the game files and make sure that you always make a backup of the original EXE before deleting it and copying the Fixed EXE into the game directory. If this does happen to be your problem, search for a new Fixed EXE at any of your favourite websites and make sure that it is legal! You must own a serial and a copy of the game YOURSELF in order to use Fixed EXEs or Fixed ISOs!
If your game is asking for special authorization to play using Windows User Account Control, just hit Allow (if you are on an Administrator account) and the game should work fine. Windows is just trying to make sure that you trust the content that you are downloading.
Happy Simming!
